Ok, so by now you know I love The Oaks (wiki), especially their album "Songs of Waiting". Thanks to Dustin for telling me about this band. I was reading over some of their lyrics tonight and was so blessed by how they evoke the imagination to bring biblical themes to life. They are not an overtly Christian band (as far as I know) but listen to these lyrics:
From the song "The Attraction of the Pilgrim":
"I can see reflected in you / something deeper and more true / something hard to understand / I can hear the drums / from behind the words you speak / I can hear the beat fall in strange places / I can see you're a pilrgim / the gathered dust on your hair / how far is your land? / can I follow you there? / oh, the attraction of the pilgrim"
So cool! The amazing thing here is way is the freshness with which they communicated a theme that is very familiar to us. May people see an attractiveness and sense we are pilgrims (I Peter 2:11). May they wonder our God and the land we are headed to and desire to follow us there!
Oh and their percussion is sick too. Next I'll tell you about their song, "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and it's connection Romans 3 and 8.
