This time in Theology Lab we're going through Tim Chester's book You Can Change. It is a great book that unpacks how we can be transformed by the Gospel. There are over 60 people spread over 6 groups this time!
Locations (all at 6:30pm):
- Tues- the Dietrich's and the Cortopassi's
Let me share a little of the vision of Theology Lab and how we hope they are going to help us be an Authentic Community, Rocked by the Gospel, Mobilized for Mission.
Authentic CommunityI think we have all look at how the first century church lived (Acts 2:42-47) and thought, "that would be so cool if we could have that today!" I can tell you that what we have in Kaleo is the closest thing to Acts 2 that I have ever experienced. We believe that Acts 2 authentic community is still available today - God wants us to have it - we just need to pray for it and go after it. So pray through Acts 2:42-47 and come with a heart to really be the church together.
Rocked by the Gospel
We believe that the key to being transformed by the Spirit is being deeply affected by the Gospel. As Tim Keller says: the Gospel is not just the ABC's of how you become a Christian, but it is the way you make any real progress in your growth as a Christian. If this is a new concept to you read the first section of his article The Centrality of the Gospel. As we go through You Can Change together we will be seeing how the Gospel is sufficient to transform you. We are not going after mere behavioral change, but true heart change - which can only happen by the Holy Spirit through the Gospel.
Mobilized for Mission
Our mission is the Great Commission which is all about making disciples. We haven't made a disciple until that person has started making disciples him/herself. You Can Change will give you the tools you need to use the Scriptures to lead people in to true Gospel heart change. So it's not just about you changing but it's about you being equipped to be a disciple-making disciples.
It's going to be good! Be in prayer and come ready to go deep and be equipped.
I'm so thankful for you all,
Erick.
